About one month ago I started my Atlantic-Trip
with my Van... willing to visit the destinations;
Portugal, Spain and France in hope to find some
wind and waves (even in this time of the year).

Until her senior year, most of her time and energy
had been focused on the mountain and soccer
fields. But in the fall of her senior year, she
traveled to Baja Mexico as a nanny and learned for
her first time about kite sailing...

WHEN DID YOU BEGIN WINDSURFING AND SURFING? Hmm…
to be in the water, that’s all I wanted since
childhood. One day I’ve seen a movie about
windsurfing and surfing and I knew I had to do
this...

What sports you did growing up? There were loads
of other kids in my neighborhood, so there was
always some kind of game going on. However,
I never played any ìorganized sportsî until high
school where I played volleyball, softball,
basketball and ran track...

IS THERE AN ATTITUDE DIFFERENCE OR PREFERENCE FOR
YOU IN EITHER SPORT ON THE WATER IN MAUI? Yes,
sufing with the girls team is always mellow, fun
,and encouringing. To surf with women is always
more fun, because we don't have to deal with the
testosterone factor, the selfishness of 'every
wave is mine'. Or should i say "where did the
chivelry go"? I'm not asking for every wave, but
just one. It's pretty hard competing with men.
They catch the best wave...

I just wish there were more women competing in the
amateur divisions, there is never enough women to
even hold a Women’s Open with more than a straight
final at most contests, so trying to get a Women’s
Amateur division going is close to impossible in
most places.

WHAT GOT YOU INTERESTED IN SEA KAYAKING? I always
remembered, growing up, seeing people kayak in the
San Juan Islands of Washington state, where I
spent my summers. It seemed like a beautiful way
to experience the landscape...

WHY HAVE YOU CHOSEN THESE OVER RACING?: I still
like racing. It is not finished. if I have chance
again I will compete. Believe me Racing is so much
fun for competition I like racing much better than
freestyle and wave competition...

When and how did you get interested in surfing?
I started surfing when I was 15 years old in Santa
Cruz, California. I loved playing in the waves on
a rubber mat. My boyfriend at the time surfed and
encouraged me to learn...

In 1998 she began Master's Swimming from the
encouragement of a friend and also began open
ocean swimming as well. Lali began competitive
swimming at age 45. Since then, she has swum both
open water and pool races...

Describe the most interesting story you covered
WHILE you were on the water, covering the story
(ie. The time you sailed with the famous women
sailors off of Australia ,) It was on the last
trip of the Volvo Ocean race...

I am a scuba diver, but I have never used scuba
gear when working with whales. Whales use bubbles
in their own communication systems, and the
emission of bubbles from scuba gear does seem to
affect their behavior. Since we are interested in
observing and documenting the natural behavior of
whales, we don’t use scuba gear but we do snorkel
or free-dive around whales that are...

WHAT KIND OF WORK DO YOU DO NOW? Underwater
Videography and Photography; also i run a non
profit that does outdoor education for teenagers
on Maui

WHEN DID YOU BEGIN COMPETING AND FOR HOW MANY
YEARS NOW? My first competition was a PWA in the
Vargas beach. People told me before that i should
try to compete in Pozo, but i was very unconfident
to do it...

When did you begin fly fishing? About four years
ago Where have you travelled to fly fish? I
have explored all around Montana and Yellowstone
National Park, Colorado...

I love this island, love the ocean, the waves and
kitesurfing, and I have my new family here and
friends, and the family can not be current...

WHERE WOULD YOU LIKE TO TRAVEL OR VISIT WITH YOUR
WINDSURFING OR SURFING? I would like to travel
to the Maledives for surfing and to Maui for
windsurfing...

WHAT KIND OF WINDSURFING DO YOU DO NOW? AND WHAT
IS YOUR FAVORITE DISCIPLINE? Waves, freestyle,
whatever! All windsurfing is good! My favorite is
high-wind freestyle. No, it’s mast-high waves. No,
it’s… you get the picture!

JAPAN, CANADA, AND SOUTH AFRICA AGAIN, I WENT TO
A CLOSER PLACE TO HOME A COUPLE OF TIMES
AUSTRALIA FOR TOUR EVENT THOUGH OUT THE COUNTY. I
DID SOME OTHER IMPORTANT EVENTS IN EUROPE
INCLUDING ENGLAND, HOLLAND, BELGUIM, AND HAD THE
CHANCE TO GO TO GREECE. A TRIP TO PARTS OF
ARGENTINA ALSO...
